Atla live action 😐
#thats my honest reaction 😐#to be fair ive only seen 20 minutes of the s1 finale bc my parents are watching it but. mmmmm kinda mid#like. the casting is definitely an improvement since the last time they tried a live action but it feels like the writing falls flat#or maybe im being harsh bc ive only heard negative criticism on it beforehand. but fr anytime u bring up the original its already#good and not just because its the original. so much fucking detail went into it to the point of someone noticing azula wielding mai's knive#to how well thought out irohs character is used as a way of uniting the cast especially as zukos foil#i heard that sokkas sexism was toned down and i have to agree that feels like a cheap move. like i get WHY they think it would be better#but its not about how that reflects on real world its about how it affects the story. sokka starts out as a misogynistic asshole because#it makes it that much more impactful when he changes. toning that down makes it flatter and makes his character development weak#and someone pointed out they didnt even make him wear the kyoshi warrior uniform and i know it feels like such a small detail but#come on man. they did that in the original because not only does it help him really walk in their shoes - wearing 'feminine' clothing and#makeup and having suki explain its significance but it also ties in with the shows theme of harmony and intersectionality#i was also disappointed when they had the fire sages explain how the water tribe draws power from the moon because in the original it was#IROH who explained it to aang and everyone else BECAUSE we as the audience is under the impression hes with the 'bad guys'#and it builds up to how he learned from the other nations which reconciles his past as a war general and his character overall#AND its an excellent starting point for the cast and audience to understand how the nations arent as closed off as you would think#plus you would think its only fire nation doing propaganda but they expanded on that with earth kingdom censorship and it WORKS#a lot of things in the live action also feel arbitrary like. they gave momo a near death experience for 5 minutes for no reason#im firmly on the stance of bringing back filler moments instead of putting major events right after each other so that u give your#audience a sense of time passing and to really absorb the story. but i think thats more like shock value than filler and yeah its a small#thing to gripe about but those things build up and its really annoying. the thing abt avatar filler moments is that however small#its at least meaningful. hell even the beach episode emphasizes how isolated zuko and his friends are as child soldiers#i also swore to never watch the first live action since it was that bad but i really liked the stylized tattoos they used for aang#anyway. those arejust my thoughts. im not gonna watch the rest because im a ride or die for the original aftr growing up and#rewatching it at least 20 times as a kid. but theres definitely room for improvement and i wish ppl wouldnt take it as 'better' just cuz#netflix is adapting it. i wouldve killed for them to just reanimate the entire avatar series and touch NOTHING ELSE no redub#no changes to the story. just reanimate the thing and leave the rest alone and youd make easy money just the same#ALSO its very jarring not hearing jack desena and dante basco voicing sokka and zuko cause their voices were the most recognizable to me#i get that its because its live action but im allowed to feel a little sad abt that. and uncle irohs accent was really soothing#yapping

as a punk, its the least fucking punk thing to call someone a poser. what 90% of anti-endos want is for endos to stop calling themselves systems (its a medical term) and to get the fuck out of our spaces. calling yourself a system (short for system of alternate states of dissociation) when you dont have did/osdd is ablist. ablism is NOT punk. listen to actual fucking trauma survivors instead of circlejerking every other ablist around
hi, sorry, i've mostly got it okay but i don't have my glasses right now and can't see very well. trying to still type properly but it's a bit hard, so i'm sorry for any typos ! ^^
i get why anti endos are wanting a space thats exclusively for cdd systems, but terms can change and adapt and evolve(and they are!) the thing is, more and more research is being done on endogenic systems and a lot of said studies are referring to endos AS systems. medical studies and such!
plus, not trying to say you're lying or anything because i can't prove you wrong, but i'm, not even entirely sure system was ever ACTUALLY just exclusively for cdds because it's just that previousloy, there was no research on endos so maybe now that more stuff is coming out about them? but if you do have stuff about the original usage of the term i'd be glad to check it out! i
and about your spaces, again i do understand why youd want a space sepcifically for traumagen/disordered systems. but the thing is, a lot of times those spaces completely exclude a lot of traumagen systems ANYWAYS!! yall exclude proendo traumagen, and exclude traumagenic systems that aren't disordered! and because a lot of those spaces have become "haha funny lets just h\ate on endos and fakeclaim a ton of them!" and also putting "proendos dni" on a lot of your posts you exclude anyone who could benefit from resources and/or potential friendships, as well as fakeclaim "real" systems! you create spaces that are filled with hate and anger so people don't feel safe expressing themselves.
tumblr is usually better about fakeclaiming stuff from what i've seen, but literally everywhere else(ESPECIALLY reddit tiktok and yt) are all incredibly hostile toward endos, and often how that manifests itserlf is fakeclaiming literally any system, ever. INCLUDING traumagen ones.
my MAIN issue with anti endos is how yall want a safe space but your spaces are so filled with hate and you consistently bar yourself from actually ever receiving any criticism. you create echo chambers, basically
safe spaces are no5t places for people to post hate without having to get called out. safe places are not for you to go "there's no science to back endos!" and then ignore any attempts to share science behind endos by saying "youre invading our spaces! you broke the dni!"
youre right, ableism is VERY not punk! but you claim to protect trauma survivors when you ignore the proendo traumagens and the endos WITH trauma!! what about the endos who had to go through trauma and want to speak about their trauma but are silenced because its "sCiEnTiFiCaLlY ImPosSiBlE!111!!11" ? what about the traumagenic systems who just waant a space to be able to communicate with other trauma survivors but they arent listened to because they support something else???
you create hateful spaces, we're gonna call you out on that bullshit.
i'm sorry about the endos who invade other tags but i feel like this time it's at least a little justified.
edit: i can see slightly better now so i fixed some of the typing errors. sorry if i still missed any

Hi professor peach. My comfey wants to be more festive for the holidays. How can i change the flowers on them to fit the holiday theme?
Just...offer them different flowers?? They regulalry give those wreaths up to those they love and trust, and constantly assemble new ones when provided enough floral material, can be tough this time of year for them to find any though.
While the vine they produce from their heads are replacable, and they will grow without issue if the pokemon is healthy, the flowers they must find themselves. While attached, flowers will survive for many months thanks to the pokemons sticky nourishing sap (given off via the vines).
Poinsettia is a common flower for the festive season, might be worth buying one and seeing if your pokemon likes it. They'll detach the old wreath, and grow a new vine, sticking their new flower choice to it. they can also sustain leaves and berries on this vine too, so you could try holly for the tyical festive season theme.
Plenty of places have different plants on sale this time of year, maybe take a trip to a florists and get a feel for what your pokemon would like? Often a colour combination is festive alone, which opens up options for flowers youd not assume are very holiday associated.
It can be a lot of fun to see them use a bunch of different flowers so mix it up, let them try a bunch! it does not cause any stress or harm to the pokemon. Comfey are wonderfully adaptive, some like to even make moss ball wreaths, some ivy and creepers like honeysuckle, some succulent flowers that are far smaller and delicate for hotter climates, the tropical orchid veriety are really unique, definetly hold a special place in my heart for those ones. Some even collect up fruit and vegetables for a more harvest festival theme, though the weight can slow them down a bit, not great for battlers.
Get creative, i'm sure you'll find something they like.

I've been seeing a lot of vamipire stuff on tumblr recently (mostly from you lol) so could reccomend some "beginner" vampire media? because I'm geniunely out of the loop (never even seen Twilight) but I am very interested
Thanks in advance! :)
yay yay yay!!!!!! okay!!!
to start out id definitely say dracula 1931 is a nice starting point. (and the novel too, which is a lot different than the movie and is incredible. dracula daily just started may 3rd so its not too late to hop on that if youre interested) dracula is the most popular of any vampire character and he inspired countless aspects of the vampire as we know it. there are many great adaptations, but the 1931 version, while not completely faithful, is a classic and i would say is essential to any vampire lovers journey
then i neeeeeed to say the lost boys 1987. it is my favorite movie, its so fun, its about a family that moves to santa carla, california "the murder capital of the world" and gets tangled up in the affairs of vampires. i think it does well to introduce you to the world of vampires, its a great start, people who have zero knowledge of vampires can enjoy this movie
after that id say what we do in the shadows (2014) is a great one. its a mockumentary and does well to introduce u to a lot of vampiric concepts and different types of vampires. it builds up its world so wonderfully and its just really funny
then buffy the vampire slayer (the show) is great at introducing u to vampires and other creatures of the night, and is one of my favorite shows. its funny and can get serious when it needs to and brings up so many wonderful thoughts and ideas. and its fun to watch, every episode, even when not dealing with vampires, is very well written id say
i dont want to overwhelm u with vampire media so ill start out with these :) i have lots more that i love but i dont know ur exact taste. let me know what aspects of vampire media u vibe with and i can try to tailor a list of suggestions for u. if u lean more towards original gothic vampires or newer ones, horrifying or comedic, arthouse or cheesy gorefests etc etc.
and i think the most important thing to keep in mind when it comes to vampires is that they are VERY versatile creatures. there are vampires spanning every genre, representing things from illness to otherness to all the evils of the world, to misunderstood heroes. and the traits associated with vampires change from story to story. theres always more to learn about them and there are always new creative views on them. so dont stress about trying to pick up on everything there is to know about vampires. just have fun with it :)
hope u enjoy the suggestions!! i mostly suggested movies but if youd like any short story or song suggestions on vampires i also have those so let me know! i bid u welcome! enter freely and of your own will!

Maybe an Alexia ficlet around distance and how they deal with upset or miscommunication. Love your writing
First one here you go! This one was a little hard to write but I hope it shows that sometimes a bit of space and patience helps no matter how hard that is sometimes.
Loving someone is hard, like really hard. But it is also one of the best feelings in the world. They are the person that you can’t wait to talk to when you wake up and the last thought on your mind before you fall asleep. They cheer you up when you are down and make the small battles worth every second. That doesn’t mean it isn’t still so, so hard some days.
Today was one of those days. You and Alexia were currently on opposite sides of the world and had been for the last 10 months, this was due to the fact that Valto had decided that you needed to play amongst the rest of your national teammates during the season before the world cup. When you woke up this morning you knew something was wrong, Alexia would have normally sent you a message to wake up to but there wasn’t one and it was already past midday for her.
She was still the first person you wanted to text once awake so you did it anyway, she was always one to say to text however many times you wanted and she’d always reply when she could. After sending the text you hoped into the shower and tried not to let your mind spin with possibilities, which you will say was pretty unsuccessful. By the time your shower was done you were pretty sure you had gone over the last week of conversations with the woman you loved with everything you had in you and you had decided at least five things you probably said wrong.
Checking your phone again to see still no message did nothing for your aching heart, in fact it just made you sad. You wished nothing more than to be able to go see her and make whatever it was you had done wrong right but that wasn’t possible, she was miles and miles away. Out of your reach.
Instead you text, that was all you could do was text. You sent a message to ask if you had done something wrong and what it was if so, so you could put it right but all you got was a simple have a good day message. As sure sign that she didn’t want to talk to you, which broke your already breaking heart. Whatever you had done was bad enough that she didn’t even want to interact with you and now all you could think about was the possibility of her ending it.
Love is a funny thing and when you get to experience it, it changes you. You learn to adapt your own self a little bit in order to account for this other person in your life, a whole different personality that won’t always run smoothly with yours and that is what you were trying to do here.
Alexia sometimes found it hard to process things to do with feelings and you and you knew that when she wanted to be left alone you had to try your best to give her that space even though it hurt you a little. Space that sometimes made your head spin and spiral with all the bad endings that you were confident weren’t going to happen, but that didn’t stop your head from thinking them.
The morning of silence turned into an afternoon and then you knew she would have gone to bed so you were in for a silent night. You processed what you could and tried to sleep as best you could with the worry.
The next morning you woke up to a text asking for a little more time but to tell you she was okay and just needed some space. It was always something she promised to do if these days happened because she knew youd be worrying if not so you appreciated her a lot for that. You left her alone for the day no matter how many times she came into your mind, no matter how many things happened that you wanted to tell her, she deserved the space she wished for from you.
You went to bed that night with a sad calm that you always got to on the second night, the realty of the situation always hit and you found it hard to not shut off from the world. Shutting off was part of you coping mechanism when it came to the love of your life freezing you out.
All that went away the next morning when you woke up to see her name on your phone. Good morning pretty girl, I had dinner last night and all I could think about was trying some of your cooking. I hope you slept well.
Rough times happen and you knew that you would both have a conversation about what made her need some space, what you need to work on and how you are going to do that but at the end of the day as long as she came back to you that’s all that matters.

im not too sure if this is the right account to send this ask to (very sorry if it isnt) but i was curious if youd be willing to chat/ramble about your own personal jekyll and hyde version? i remember having a small talk with you on artfight about your jekyll and hyde version (im dragondog from artfight if youre curious) and my curiosity has been peaked ever since. i need to know more. your own personal jekyll and hyde designs and story seem so interesting but i rarely see you talk about them which i think is just absolutely criminal.
:00000000
The sacred question has been asked - someone has asked about my ocs-
This is a perfectly okay account to ask this to! It's the closest I've got to a Jekyll and Hyde account after all.
Anyway, thank you so much for asking!!! This ask was gnawing at me in a good way for most of the day while I was away from my computer, considering what information to include and how to explain stuff. It was a lot of fun!
I'm also glad you found them interesting!!!
(Also going to say before I start is that my Jekyll and Hyde versions get very self indulgent which is why I usually keep them to myself so some factors about my story might sound rather weird or seem to come out of left field. Just a heads up.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I guess the best place to start would probably be with Jekyll and Hyde themselves?
Like the book, the two of them are basically the same person. When Jekyll turns into Hyde and vice versa, nobody 'takes control', it's more like getting high or drunk where they're still the same person but still act quite different or think differently from each other.
However, they do have differing opinions on each other. Hyde, being a less repressed version of Jekyll, understands a lot of Jekyll's emotions better than him. He knows when Jekyll regrets something or cares more than he wants to let on. Though, as much as he can have these realisations, when he turns back into Jekyll, he tends to dismiss them as 'irrational' thoughts brought on by the potion and not worth considering (aka, the repression kicks in and he refuses to entertain any conclusions he came to as Hyde.)
This leads to a lot of frustration and concerns from Hyde. The knowledge that he has to turn back into Jekyll, whereupon anything he's realised about themself, anything that could help them both, will be instantly dismissed by himself the moment he turns back. No matter how much he writes it down or tells it to himself again and again because it's not forgotten, Jekyll just doesn't want to look at it. And he can't just bother Jekyll as a hallucination ghost like most adaptations. When he turns back, Hyde is gone. Like a stain of breath on glass.
This also leads to fear from Hyde towards his alter ego - If Jekyll ever decided the potion wasn't worth his time and threw it away, Hyde would be unable to do anything about it, would be the one throwing it away in fact. He wouldn't be able to scream or protest or anything. And he enjoys being Hyde. It wouldn't really be death but he enjoys being Hyde so much and hates the monotony of Jekyll so much that it would be like a death.
Luckily, Jekyll isn't planning on throwing the potion out because they do feel the same way and Jekyll enjoys taking the potion and being Hyde just as much (even if he would never actually admit that's the reason). The fear is still there though, ever present.
...I've gotten so deep into explaining their relationship that I have not explained anything else yet, whoops.
Both Jekyll and Hyde have some inhuman traits about them since the first transformation. Jekyll has mildly reflective eyes like a cat but it can only be seen in certain lighting so nobody notices. He also moves with a little too much perfection, a little too graceful, a little lacking in the usual human clumsiness.
Hyde, meanwhile, is just very off putting in many ways. For one is his eyes as shown by this diagram that I made for artfight. (Also his teeth, and his insides being green)
Tumblr media
His eyes change shape, a bit like a cartoon character. Other people can, in fact, see this and it is, in fact, weird for them. (He can also probably say <3 and everyone else asks how he just did that with his mouth.)
He also changes based on Jekyll's perception of himself and his 'evils'. This means he can get taller or shorter, or become more obviously monstrous or go back to just being a guy with an uneasy feel about him just based on Jekyll's opinions. If Jekyll starts to fear Hyde and view him as a threat, Hyde changes physically to reflect this.
Personality-wise, Jekyll likes to keep control over every aspect of his life, creating perfect schedules for everything that he's going to do in a day, timing each event down to the minute, designing contingencies in case anything unexpected happens. He can be friendly enough to other people for the sake of his image but he still comes across as rather cold and distant.
Hyde, meanwhile, is obviously free of all this and does whatever he pleases. He tends to be loyal and loving, to the point of being a little too obsessed, and is exceedingly open about how he's feeling. He's also incredibly truthful - he almost never lies about anything but will often fae-rule his way out of anyone realising the real truth. For example, he's very open about being Doctor Jekyll but nobody believes him because he'll just drop it into a conversation and won't elaborate or will elaborate in a way that just sounds even more like a lie. And, of course, Jekyll himself will obviously deny it, so...
Besides that, Jekyll keeps three lab rats, Noir, Spot, and Rose who, due to the potion being used on them, can also change shape like Jekyll and Hyde. As such, Hyde tends to take them with him when he goes out.
(Also, smaller headcanon but Hyde tends to repeat words or phrases twice, "Indeed indeed", "What? What?", etc. Just seemed like a fun addition.)

Tumblr media
Next, Lanyon.
Lanyon and Jekyll are on weird terms because they had a fight years back. After seeing Jekyll's science get more and more dangerous over the years, Lanyon was afraid that he would some day hurt himself in a way he couldn't take back or even die from it. After trying to convince Jekyll to stop for ages, Lanyon finally put their foot down and said that, if Jekyll didn't stop, they would leave.
Both Jekyll and Lanyon deeply regret the argument but neither of them can take it back. Jekyll is too stubborn to admit that he was ever in the wrong and Lanyon can't take it back because then they don't have anything else to hold over Jekyll's head to get him to stop.
At least, that was how the fight was initially.
After the potion was taken, Lanyon, who was very close to Jekyll's mad science experiments and was very used to seeing the signs that Jekyll had done something to himself, was the only person who noticed the change. Seeing Jekyll's new changes terrified Lanyon deeply because he knew Jekyll had done something but he didn't know what. Being a rather skittish person, Lanyon was too scared to speak to Jekyll after that, doing all they could to avoid him.
Maybe things could have continued that way with the two avoiding each other. However, after the fight, Lanyon came out as genderfluid.
They had been meddling with their own gender before in quiet but the fight basically gave Lanyon the midlife crisis moment they needed to go "You know what? I don't care about anyone's opinions. I've seen what caring about ones image did to Jekyll and I don't want to be anything like that."
And so came Hastie and Hattie, two names for the same person, just using different pronouns and names based on what Lanyon felt like at the time.
Jekyll, however, was avoiding hearing anything about Lanyon and completely missed this massive piece of information. Jekyll is also notably, very wrapped up in his own very small world and opinions (also, no internet). He has no idea that transness is a thing.
Hence, Jekyll believes that Hastie and Hattie are not the same person but, instead, brother and sister. Lanyon, meanwhile, who was so open and so gossiped about when they first came out, doesn't even realise that anyone could??? not know????? that they're the same?????? Everyone else knows! They don't even look that different!
This all cumulates in one fateful night where Lanyon, going by Hattie, and Hyde meet. The two of them get along like a house on fire, neither caring much for society's rules and both of them being in some way being shunned for their peculiarities. Hyde is much more outgoing and often pushes Lanyon outside of their comfort zone while Lanyon is more level-headed and can often do the planning and thinking that Hyde neglects to keep them both safe.
All the while, Hyde has no idea that he's talking to Hastie and Lanyon has no idea that they're talking to Jekyll.
Personality-wise Lanyon tends to be very down-to-earth and prefers to do things by the book for the most part. Though this is only for the most part - in terms of dealing with other people, Lanyon gets much more expressive, dressing wildly and often doing strange things like taking live geese into a dinner party. While this does allow them to express themselves in some ways that are beneficial to them, like becoming comfortable with their gender identity, some of these behaviours, like the live geese in the dinner party, are very much a way to push away the people around them, afraid of something going wrong after their experiences with Jekyll.
Until they meet Hyde, Utterson is their only friend (which Utterson is quite concerned about, often trying to encourage Lanyon to make more friends.)
Besides that, Lanyon is fond of gardening, collecting crystals, astrology, and yoga. They dabble with a lot of relaxation stuff like chamomile tea, incense, lavender, etc.
-
Tumblr media
Utterson, meanwhile, tends to be the most calm and collected out of the three of them, seemingly unbothered by most of what life throws at him and good at handling even the most stressful situations with ease. Not to mention, he has the most unexpected range of skills and knowledge. Whenever anyone has a problem, he's the number one person to go to for help.
However, for the most part, he fades into the background and tends to remain forgotten until someone needs him for something which leaves him lonely and often desperate for attention while being unable to get it. His work as a lawyer allows him to get fleeting amounts of attention, but it's not quite enough and that often leaves him vulnerable to falling in with bad people.
While Lanyon sees straight through Jekyll, Utterson has fallen quite a bit into seeing Jekyll as innocent and naĂŻve, someone who doesn't fully understand how cruel the world can be and needs to be protected from it. This means, when Hyde shows up and Jekyll changes his will for him, Utterson is quite quickly defensive of Jekyll and aggressive towards Hyde, believing that Hyde has nothing but bad intentions. Hyde, however, is quite head-over-heels for Utterson and determined to seduce him or at least set him up with Jekyll.
While Utterson appears unaffected by anything that crosses his path, this is actually because he has difficulty expressing his emotions, his expression and tone generally remaining static. Only people close to him can generally tell what he's thinking and feeling as a result.
Personality-wise, Utterson is generally quite kindly and generous, often seen giving food and money to the homeless. Though, his morality can be a bit of a roulette wheel at times, willing to do questionable things at times if he deems it for a good enough cause.
In terms of hobbies, he will often bake things for his friends and carried the three of them through university as the only one who could actually cook. He also has a slightly more morbid interest in taxidermy and keeps a room in his house for his work.
(For another smaller headcanon, he and Lanyon tend to get into pun fights, much to Jekyll's agony.)
-
Tumblr media
Then there's Lenore Carew (aka, Lisa Carew, she just got renamed along the way). She makes up the third member of Hyde's little friendship squad with Lanyon. An excitable lady with an interest in the occult and monsters. She and Jekyll were once set to be married but, due to a mutual realisation that neither liked the other in that way, they broke it up. Jekyll has been avoiding her ever since, finding the situation awkward, but Hyde is very much down to be friends with her again.
While she does her best to live up to her family name, being as much of a respectable and graceful lady as she can be, in her spare time she'll often sneak out to go running after whatever haunted house or cryptid sighting she's heard of lately.
The actual reason for her interest is because her mother, before she died, was a prophet, gifted with Sight and Lenore, raised with all these stories of her grandeur and powers, is determined to find a way to awaken those same powers in herself.
However, along the way, these powers actually do start to manifest and, as it turns out, a lot scarier and more difficult to control than she ever realised.
Most particularly, sometimes when she looks at Jekyll, she sees something - or someone - else in his place. She has no idea what these visions mean, whether it's a vision from the future, from the past, or something else entirely.
Personality-wise, while she can excitable and often gets ahead of herself, she can be very kind and compassionate towards others, always the first to slow down and check if someone is okay or to offer a hug to those in need. She can also often show a childish side, enjoying stuffed toys, getting along well with kids, or just playing games.
-
Uh, so anyway, there's a bunch more but this post is getting long and I've taken all day with this. If I take much longer, it's going to look like I'm not going to answer. I think this is the stuff that most people would be interested in anyway, Lanyon, Utterson, Jekyll, and Hyde. I'm still missing out an explanation of the worldbuilding itself and the antagonists, not to mention little details and side characters like Poole and such.
I fool around with these characters a lot and that means there's more information than I even remember most of the time until something pops into my head and I go "Ohhhh that plot point. That was fun."
Thank you again for the ask!!!!

hhi could i. could i ask if you have any portal ford headcanons im being insane about him right now and your headcanons are So đŸ’„â€ŒïžđŸŽ‰đŸŒˆđŸ’„/pos
hi hello hows it goin
-he didn't get all of his tattoos in one sitting, and he actually has a few he gave to himself. some of the tattoos look like normal earth tattoos, but theres also a few that have cool effects to them. color-changing, moving slightly, shapeshifting from one creature to another, etc. etc.
-he gave himself a little sailboat tattoo in case he ever lost the photo. he also gave himself an axolotl after he met Jheselbraum
-when he was fresh into the portal, hed join other interdimensional travelers, make companions...he stopped after a while because the grief he felt every time he inevitably lost them became too much. he still misses the ones he did have, though. he gave himself a constellation tattoo to remember them- a star for each one.
-he has perhaps too many tattoos. most of them end up being covered up by scars, though
-speaking of scars- ford lost his right arm sometime while he was in the portal. An "anomaly" bit it off. He has a prosthetic now (in the future, he's going to keep forgetting to mention this to stan. which is. definitely not going to cause any problems at all (sarcastic))
-he has several scars that either look weird (slightly glow-in-the-dark, shimmers, etc.) or healed in strange patterns because they were caused by weapons very much not intended to interact with human flesh
-he has a lot of "speckle" scars all over him. theyre from corrosive rain
-Jheselbraum has been thoroughly established as a sort of secondary mother figure in his mind. She has also been given this role by many, many other versions of Ford. she is the space mom
-he once met a moth version of himself who borrowed a gun from him and never gave it back. hes still upset about that. no, he has not realized the connection
-he once held a full conversation with another version of stan without noticing who he was talking to. in his defense, it was dark out
-at some point, he developed a tapetum lucidum and nictitating membranes. this is the incredibly self-indulgent biology-hyperfixation-induced headcanon
-he thinks he can handle smoke and toxic air better because of how much time hes spent not being able to breathe properly. its actually made him more sensitive to things like that
-he has gotten better at not being poisoned though. this comes from years of eating random mushrooms and plants and bug-adjacent creatures. this doesnt apply to raw meat as much, but he can definitely handle it better than most other humans
-every now and then, the hyperfixation excitement will outweigh how horrible he feels all the time and he'll just end up staring at some sort of weird creature and taking mental notes about it for a really long time
-sometimes he'll name random creatures he sees just to kill time. waiting for your food to finish cooking? give your local fish-bird-thing a name
-he doesnt know this, but hes actually seen a few creatures that are considered cryptids in those dimensions
-his favorite dimensions are the ones filled with wildlife and starry skies and vibrant colors. theyre not nearly as common as youd think they are
-hes gotten more used to speaking non-earth languages than earth-languages. as such, hes started using lots of phrases that have...interesting translations in english
-he forgets how to speak sometimes. it used to be more distressing, but he doesnt typically come across many creatures that can understand language anyway. its more of an annoyance than anything at this point
-hes gotten really good at mimicking the calls of other creatures. really good. possibly too good (he will use this power for evil in the future. to terrorize his brother with seagull noises)
-this is technically post-portal, but he adapts the creatures hes seen into homebrew enemies and races in his DD&MD campaigns
-also post-portal, but he'll sometimes forget that that weird thing hes looking at is. yknow. weird and not just a normal part of life in this dimension. this is one of the two reasons why he asks stan to point out anomalies to him

As a 90s anime lover (nostalgia + the only one I've seen lol), here's a free coupon to rant about what about it you don't like. For funsies
OHOHO SIT DOWN FOR THIS BECAUSE ITS A LOT
Ikuhara rlly said “how about I change everything about these characters and make them completely opposites of how they’re supposed to be from the manga and make them all terrible”
I could literally complain for HOURS about how Ikuhara completely ruined Mamoru’s and Rei’s personalities esp
Like Mamoru in the manga is so nice and sweet and genuinely cares about Usagi meanwhile he’s a complete dick in the anime PLUS they made him way older than usagi which made their relationship way more creepy??
AND DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE BAD FILLER ARCS LIKE MAMORU BREAKING UP WITH USAGI AND DATING REI WHICH IS SO OUT OF CHARACTER YOUD THINK IT WOULD BE FROM A FANFIC
fucking Rei and Mamoru don’t even interact much in the manga so I??? Don’t understand why they did that???
It’s the only adaptation to make him like that afaik hes manga accurate even in the MUSICALS SO LIKE???
This image rlly shows the difference between both Mamorus
Tumblr media
And Ohohoho Rei Hino. Tell me how they made the characters who says she hates men in almost every scene boy crazy and desperate for a boyfriend (which is Mina’s character trait but whatever) and they also made her a dick too??? Like I don’t understand why they made so many characters be a dick to usagi when they weren’t supposed to be
Also for Rei specifically its so funny bc she has SO many lesbian moments with Mina in the manga, like the iconic “we don’t need men in our lives anymore” scene like???? You’re gonna make THAT Rei obsessed with men
.Okay
..
And then there’s seiya,,
And like, whilst it is cool that the 90s anime made her genderfluid in a way (her being a man in her civilian form and changing into a woman for her sailor form) it was ONLY done so that her and Usagi could have more romantic tension (which you still could’ve done if she was a butch/gender ambiguous woman like in the manga? Naoko famously didn’t rlly like and was disappointed by the change which honestly fair bc they changed so much of her story I’d be mad too—)
And also the pairing is just annoying bc in the manga she KNOWS her feelings are unrequited because Usagi is already with someone, she isn’t pushy and respects Usagi a lot, (like yeah she does kiss her but honestly who HASNT kissed usagi like it’s everyone she has those kissable vibes) but in the 90s anime they forced this rlly weird rivalry between her and Mamoru and it’s like???? Stop??? And she’s way a bit more pushy “aren’t I good enough?” it’s just bleh, and what sucks is that in the 90s anime shes a lot nicer than mamoru (HER CANONICAL SOULMATE) so like yeah she would be the better choice for usagi in the 90s anime which just shows the fucking biggest problem of it!! It doesn’t understand the characters!!!
The anime had a weird obsession with making a lot of relationships way creepier
Like Helios and Chibiusa they made Helios rlly creepy and it didn’t help he was voiced by a grown ass man when he’s supposed to be like 12 like???
There’s also smaller stuff like Demande which isn’t small actually and here’s why
Now I don’t remember much of the black moon arc in the 90s anime but from what ik they tried to make him more sympathetic which like??? No???
He forcefully kissed Usagi and had this weird obsession with her (because he thought she was neo queen serenity) and didn’t actually see her past his delusion HE IS BAD
In the 90s anime they removed the forced kiss and tried to say he loved Usagi as a person which like?? Goes against his entire character?? No??? Stop???
The ONLY THING character wise the 90s gets right is Haruka and Michiru, but they fucked up everything else!!!!!!!!!
Watch crystal and read the manga PLEASE its so much better and you can read the manga for free on Miss dream (no ads dw <3)
Anyways them!!!!

got carried away writing a book review of the day of the doctor so here u go i guess
the episode itself is. fine I guess. there are some good moments & its fun seeing ten & eleven interact and there's some good angsting etc. like the episode is fairly solid even though it does that typical moffat retroactively-changing-massive-parts-of-canon thing that he liked doing. its not perfect but whatever, there are lots of good bits! The Novelisation. Is. Dare I Say Kinda Bad.
(also I should point out that this is written by steven moffat who was the showrunner and wrote the script for the episode like he should know what he's doing)
it starts off with the doctor narrating in a typical slightly silly pretentious fourth-wall breaking kinda thing and you're like okay this is sort of cool yup very eleven that feel like him. the narration switches between the doctor talking about himself in third person cos a) that's how books work and b) he's just Like That but will slip into first person in select moments to show he's getting caught up in remember events or his feelings and the idea is that you're reading it on psychic paper & it's being beamed into your head telepathically or whatever and that's cool!! that's a good idea!
HOWEVEr. there are three (mainly) versions of the doctor in the book the war doctor the tenth doctor and the eleventh. and YOUD THINK THEY JUST CALL THEM WAR DOCTOR TEN AND ELEVEN like normal people but noooooooo depending on whose pov you're in he gives them all silly nicknames based on how various characters perceive them which is really hard to follow, or just call all of the The Doctor, which is their name yeah but like ??? which one is talking???? you kinda have to guess sometimes??? added to that is that there are shapeshifters in this one so there's another layer of 'is this the real guy or the Copy Guy' as well as BAD WOLF being there (who isn't rose, its bad wolf, but it isn't her either because it's a sentient superweapon that's talking to him that just LOOKS like rose.), there's just all in all a lot of Multiple Versions Of The Same Few People which can be hard to keep track of. like it's just confusing to read sometimes. not too hard even if the endless silly nicknames for ten & eleven get annoying a bit.
and there's a bunch of inconsistencies too (and yes I know I know this is the who needs continuity show) between this and the episode and I guess moffat can do what he likes adapting his own stuff but he kinda missed out some good bits? doesn't even have the 'this is his grunge phase' line and some of the stuff that makes ten and eleven's dynamic so funny but has all these random extra scenes of kate lethbridge-stewart and osgood that are just ?????? we didn't need that there??? it wasn't reeeeally adding anything??? and in the episode ten and eleven cant see bad wolf/rose/the moment ar all but here they see it for a bit?? but like no reaction really from either of them even though ten at LEaST should have had a visceral moment of loss there or something. idk.
and then at the end where there's that curator guy who is tom baker and its kinda I think supposed to be ambiguous as to whether its really four or not or some kind of coincidence but in the book it's like 'ahah! i was really narrating as four all along!' but like how is that even possible sorry I know this is the time travel show but why is he there and what is the implication? i think it's cos 11 says 'oh I could retire and be a curator' and then four is all old n stuff and Is the curator but like???? he regenerated?? is this a ten/fourteen type situation of the far future like a decade before they came up with that and then why is four in 2013??? what?? idk did they just really really want tom baker in it?
and then there's more foreshadowing of peter capaldi as twelve and then ten says 'i don't want to go' again which you're supposed to find sad but is fitted in in the most awkward way possible like. he would not say that no one would have said that sentence just then sorry guys. the ending feels kinda rushed more so in the book cos the narrator (four?? eleven??? is literally Not Paying Attention to the last conversation and then there's a page that says HELP ME over a bunch of tally marks ?????? idk man????? also there's all this stuff in the comedic chapter interlude narration that's referring to 'chapter nine' 'stop trying to find chapter nine' is he just saying 'yeah ok the ninth doctor's not in this one sorry guys'???? i think so??
cos it starts with chapter eight which is the eighth doctor getting regenerated into the war doctor (a soldier in the time war, the very thing he was saying he'd never become) (more of Moffat retrospectively Majorly Altering Canon) which was uhm. quite the scene cos in the episode he chooses it?? but in the book it says he was forced to by the sisterhood of karn???? what???????????? if that's so then why isn't that made Very Clear in the episode???? girl what???? there's lots of references to classic who which is fun but then he goes and says 'oh yeah btw one and two were actually colourblind that's why 1963-69 was in black and white' like okay. that's a slightly stupid writing decision which every other author has managed to ignore because it doesn't matter that they were in black and white cos the show started airing IN THE SIXTIES you can accept the limitations of historical content into canon!! he did the exact same thing in twice upon a time when he made One make sexist jokes so he could point out how progressive the show was Now which actually backfires Majorly because it makes The Doctor sexist instead of making The White British Colonial Men Who Wrote It In 1960s England sexist like ausgnauhgnshansghn CMON! and on that note Why Is This STuff So Sexualised like????? there was no need to say that the doctor found clara pretty, or rose/bad wolf/the moment/whatever, ten ends up marrying queen Elizabeth I which is kinda funny ngl but some of the things eleven says about that! is so weird! and unnecessary! and theres the fuckinhnsaa scene with the comparing the size of the sonic screwdrivers which is SO BAD LIKE YUCKKKK WHAT WHY WOULD YOU PUT THAT IN THERE ITS A FAMILY SHOW DUDE and like all the women at some point have a Comment on their appearance except for maybe kate lethbridge-stewart but idk. ahjsajnsajnsan. ick. and moffat just changes canon around all the time! gallifrey is gone again! but not really! but now it's back for real! the hybrid! (still don't know what was up with that) the impossible girl! mels/melody/river song! why!
and like some of it was so good!! the three doctors who are all the same person but not the same person, and some of the character writing was really really good & the interactions between different regenerations and like i Knew sometimes when ten was speaking cos the way he reacts to his own issues is so predictable (good predictable. like he has A Way He Acts its fascinating) and how they talk to each other (themself) as a representation of what the doctor is always struggling with about the decisions he's made. and i love the 'time lord art is bigger on the inside' bit that's really cool & when the war doctor starts the calculations and then eleven can finish them cos its four hundred years later even though they're in the same room together, like that's cool! moffat understands how to use timey-wimey stuff in the time travel show and he does it very well, a lot more (and better) than russell t davies does. but i watch this episode and think what no i really like this one and then i think about it and There Are Problems!!
anyways. uhm. haha. my favourite show 👍

hi! im the anon that left a really long ask about misogyny in the lmk fandom lol (Ä° dont have a response completely written yet, while Ä° do have more to talk about on the subject Ä° feel like a lot of it might come off as repetitive, also my ask draft is like twice as long as the first ask LOL) but ive seen you talk about about thinking about watching revolutionary girl utena on here and if you havent watched it yet id really reccomend watching it! it has a lot of the same themes as lmk (and utdr which is also something ive seen you talk about! (btw id like to hear your thoughts on utdr if you want to talk about it on here!)) so i think youd like it if you watched it! Ä°m going to try to be vauge abt themes and topics discussed in rgu for the sake of spoilers (also i dont want to present the idea that theres a "correct interpretation" of utena because i feel like thats reductive to the narrative the show presents), but i do want to say that if you do decide to watch it you should really take a look at its trigger warnings. utena as a show does go into some very dark topics and themes and has a laundry list of content warnings that Ä° dont think is worth skipping . Ä° think it handles them well for a 90's tv show but Ä° think it should be mentioned regardless. i also think that something that you should know before going into it is just how much it relies on a symbolic narrative in the sense that if you arent interested in analyzing it then you probably wont get as much from the show just because of how surreal it is, Ä° dont think this makes rgu a worse story at all (in fact Ä° think it makes it better because i lets it take into account different audience interpretations and opens the room up for a lot of different analysis) BUT its something id keep in mind before watching the show lol (also i think that if you watch rgu and you like it, another thing you'd probably like is omniscent readers viewpoint! im not great at summarizing things so im not going to go too in depth on it, theres a good summary on tumblr by the user ot3 that Ä° think is good. my personal take on it from where Ä° am in the novel is that its basically like if you put lmk and utdr into a blender and then made that into a novel... (theres also a webtoon adaptation but imo its kind of bad bad)) anyway Ä° hope you havent watched rgu already or else this ask will be really embarassing lol.
tldr: lesbian swordfight anime is Cool and you should watch it it totally wont change you as a person ahah a
No I totally haven't watched rgu yet! I just reblog some of the stuff I see for future me who has
I totally want to though (the content warnings aren't anything that squick me), it seems interesting and you know I love me some symbolism and a meta-narrative that wants you to engage with it on a higher level. And also lesbians

!!!! BSD5 EP10 SPOILERS !!!!
Tumblr media
i take back all my ironypoisoned statements about bsd i loved that most recent episode a LOT a lot. its not like i disliked the current arc by any means, but it also reached a point in its absurdity where i stopped taking it too seriously - and MAN did this episode bring it back SO GOOD!!!
it did really well - between sigma and dazai being trapped in the flooded room, the sskk fight, the fyodor and sigma scenes, the bram and aya scenes - both with bringing all those subplots to very bleak devastating points, AND with something i have always always criticized about bsd: the violence here feels real, it has stakes - yes i expect a bsd-typical fakeout next episode after we saw dazai get (supposedly) shot to death, yes i know atsushi after being dismembered is probably gonna be fine, one way or another, cuzthats how this show rolls... BUT!!! BUT! let me bask in this until the next episode drops: the WEIGHT of it all!! how PAINFUL they made it!!!
bsd gives characters mortal injuries often, and doesnt really give them lasting impact. remember when atsushi lost his leg? kunikida lost his hands? or when dazai got shot in the eye in dark era? those bits essentially existed just for the striking imagery of violence - for the shot of dazai bleeding through his bandages, but he's still standing, pretty motionless, you know? and it's something you get used to with bsd, as much as i gripe about how the fights tend to not really have stakes...
...but this episode, though? i think going so long seeing these characters crumple and tear like paper and largely be fine, makes the absolute painful bleakness of this feel all the worse: dazai's crumpled on the floor from a broken leg, bleeding from the head, and he can't deliver many of his dazai-typical quips before he gets shot in the shoulder and just grabs it and screams. he doesn't get the satisfaction of being grabbed, or strangled, or whatever else by chuuya's hands, he doesn't even have the control of that: no, all he can do is just sit there while he's shot, over and over, and even when he's on a smarmy genre-savvy self-aware ramble, chuuya just stops him and shoots him in the head - and that's so fucking jarring and makes for INCREDIBLY striking imagery, i love it!!! for once, he's not safe! there's no plot armor! he's in so much pain and he is actively feeling it!!! AND THATS SO IMPORTANT TO HUMANIZING A CHARACTER LIKE DAZAI
AND THE SSKK FIGHT GOD DONT GET ME STARTED - the way atsushi's screams were voice acted, my god youd think they were actually tearing off yuto uemura's limbs in that recording studio. sweet jesus. you see people complain a lot about manga-aname adaptation changes but, as someone who hasnt read the manga, any cuts studio bones made were made up for by the absolutely brilliant audio - the music and voice acting - in every way, in this episode. the screams of pain. fyodor's gayass little stunt. so good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
also sigma was awesome. aya was awesome. bram was awesome. fyodor made me feel a type of way (HIS ACTING WAS SO GOOD. MY GOD!!! TAKING ADVANTAGE OF SIGMA'S NAIVETE LIKE THAT!!! SPEAKING TO THEM IN TROPES BECAUSE THEY'RE LITERALLY A BOOK CHARACTER AAAUHHHH). 10/10 we are so fucking back. I LOVE ANIME.

hullo! if you adapted Island of Ideologies in another media, let's say a novel... would the narrator still be Five like in the first few pages of the prologue? someone else in universe (like Dr Slay. i mean. Dr Rose)? or an omniscient third person narrator? also what would change drastically (like things youd skip in a novel but not in a webcomic and vice versa)?
GIGGLES MENIACALLY. ohh ozymandias you read us so well for we have a fascination with media type differences.
we actually considered ioi as a novel at multiple points! so thankfully we've thought about it a bit prior. we imagine the narrator would be third person - the primary reason why we have five as the perspective character is because it's really hard to do comics in proper third person.. to us.. but third person we're more comfortable writing with, and it allows for more neutrality. dr rose would be such an interesting perspective character because he's a curious little beast to us but it probably wouldn't function well for the prologue specifically. for a lot of reasons but mostly just coming back to the fact that he's not a good person specifically in a way which would fuck the narrative a bit lol... he doesn't view most people as being as human as him, especially certain characters, which makes it kind of difficult to tell a story about humans doing human things, and his weirdo tendencies would be difficult to depict internally without also making us seem like a weirdo! it's fun to think about though.
as for what would change drastically... the dialogue omga... we're a novel writer before we're a comic writer and we think that kinda shows. so the way we go about dialogue has to be different by result of the fact that we don't have any other words at our disposal to make up for anything that might be lost in the dialogue alone that isn't also picked up by the visuals. most comic writers seem to more so have the perspective of This Is Just How Dialogue Is rather than feeling like they need to make up for the fact they can't make use of prose, so, we'd definitely be more in our comfort zone if it was novelized. maybe less melodrama in every syllable lmaooo
we don't think there's anything we'd Skip that would be like, notable, because story is story to us... if we can't include a certain necessary series of events in a piece of media then we won't consider it as an option. since comic stuff takes a LOT of time it's basically only scenes we feel are necessary, either because it progresses the plot or gives some sort of needed character insight. but if it was novelized we'd probably spend a bit more time on certain things to let scenes breathe.
despite us being more comfortable with novel writing, there's a few reasons why we didn't go with it... first, less and less people are interested in novels, ESPECIALLY if they don't fit into certain mainstream categories. meanwhile people are more likely to give a comic a shot even if they don't regularly read comics because it's easier for the average person to pay attention to. (we're kind of the opposite, weirdly, it's easier for us to read light novel adaptations of a series than its manga counterpart, but we understand what's normal for most people.)
second is. the character names are literally SUCH an issue that they could singlehandedly ruin any attempts at novelization. right now they're fine but once the focus shifts on the bajillion characters whose names are just different ideologies, it will become very. very difficult to read. if not unreadable. ideology names are wordy as hell and shortening them like anarcho primitivism -> anprim, would make it even harder to distinguish between characters despite being less wordy, because sure it's functional normally but not when anprim is in a scene with anmon, annatur, ansoc, and primprim. the general advice is to not have too many characters which start with the same first letter but we're performing overkill here. +, we only think memorizing characters would be possible if there was some sort of visual aid. even if you can't remember the name you can probably associate that specific character design with specific actions, which doesn't work in print. if you forget a name then you'll either have no clue what's going on or you'll have to search it up which is a hassle. if we ever used prose to tell any part of ioi then we'd have to make use of specific guidelines and be fairly intentional with what characters we use in order to not be confusing and awful.

I saw someone make a post about how if you want to analyze the pjo show you have to ask yourself if you would still like it if they casted 20 something yros instead of the Walker, Leah, and Aryan, and iff you wouldn’t like the show if they did that and without the “at least its not the movie” mentality.
The thing is, i definitely wouldnt like the show as much if they had cast adults to play Percy, Annabeth, and Grover, but I don’t think that this reflects negatively on the show. I don’t want to argue with anyone or seem like I’mm picking a fight, which is why im making a separate post, but it made me think about it. I never saw the movies at all, but a bug part of the enjoyment of the show is the fact that theyre kids. A good show needs several things. It needs good casting, good writing, good production, etc. If they had cast people who didnt play the parts well it would have made the show a lot worse, but that’s true of every single show in existence. If you cast someone who doesnt play their part well in a show or movie it makes the show or movie worse.
In this case it is a matter of how far viewers can suspend their disbelief. The show is good because we can see the characters and visibly tell that they are children, which allows a larger degree of suspense of disbelief with the choices they make. Sure, they don’t always do things that are logical or that are the choices we would make if we were in that position, but theyre kids and so we can still believe that somebody would make that choice in that situation. Whereas with an adult its harder to excuse childish behavior. I feel like the writing has been very true to the characters.
I also understand that some people wont like the fact that there has been a lot of variation from the books, but I feel like it has all been done in an effort you make a cohesive adaptation to a tv show. And i think its worked. The show is still very much in the same spirit of the book even with all the changes, and I even like some of the scenes in the show better than the books. However, it’s still fair to not like the changes. I just dont think that its necessary to ask yourself if youd like the show if the actors were adults instead of kids or were people who were worse at playing the roles in order to properly analyze it because its true of every single show that casting is at least a third of what makes a good show, in ny opinion. If your opinion of the show would change if they casted it differently then that’s, in my opinion, normal.
Again, not trying to start an argument or anything, I just saw a post that made me think about it and wanted to talk about my point of view on how casting affects shows. No hate or anything if you disagree, this is all just my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own.

I have heard and experienced that the use of masks and quarentining has caused many secondary issues. For instance, the fact that the flu and other similar diseases actually became significantly worse/more dangerous after several years of masking. It isn't without risks.
From what I understand, masking does not work long-term. The second we decide to stop masking, there will be a resurgence of many diseases because then the people who have been masking will be extra susceptible. I don't really understand what you are suggesting. Are you really saying that for safety we must all keep our faces covered in all public areas for the rest of our lives? Because I am simply and honestly not willing to live like that.
If there was a genuine understanding by the scientific community of how and when to stop masking, I would be on board with the gameplan. But clearly, there isn't one. So as long as there isn't a plan for what kind of markers or parameters could lead to the end of masking, then I do not think there is adequate understanding of infectious disease to actually endorse masking.
While I am no infectious disease expert, I do have a degree in biochem. And sentences like "as a medical professional, the things I don't know worry me a lot" are incredibly suspect. If that's true, than youd be somewhat worried about things like, the effects of having the entire human race masking for several years, or the efficacy of a brand new neucleotide-based form of vaccine which was rushed through basic clinical testing. The truth is, nothing about this is precidented, and therefore ANYONE, including yall, acting like they absolutely definitely know what would be best for everyone is simply wrong.
Also "the virus mutates so quickly!" Yeah so does the flu. Thats why people get flu shots every single year. Unless you can explain to me why COVID has a completely different and more adaptive genetic process than every other disease known to man, you need to try better.
Furthermore, can you explain why supposedly we could create a "polio/smallpox-level" vaccine for those diseases, but not for this one? Surely those diseases were continuing to evolve and change, and in fact they currently are, which is part of why polio hasn't been completely eradicated yet. As long as we don't value the health of third world countries, they will continue to host disease, which will inevitably mutate and spread back to the rest of the world.
Ultimately, I do agree that we cannot trust the information we are getting because the government/capitalist leaders want us to believe we are safe so we will get back to work. That is why COVID data/VAERS stopped being published.
Again, can any of you please express what the long-term plan is here? If you can say "yeah, mask for the next 10 years and then we'll be good" that would be reasonable. But just "keep masking forever because disease is scary" isn't. If you are scared of disease you may mask. I personally will trust my immune system, my God, and I will die when the time is right for me. I will mask when I feel sick, to protect others when I can, like Asia has done since SARS.
I welcome genuine, honest, and respectful discussion. I am open to changing my mind with reasonable debate and evidence. Peace.
About covid being over: are we just meant to put our entire social lives, our entire society on pause forever? My mental health plummeted during lockdown and will take years to recover. Now that there's vaccines and crowd immunity and less deadly strains we ARE meant to learn to deal with it as a given, the way we have with many deadly diseases in the past, and move on. So for the sake of life moving on at some point it's **normal** to treat it as a cold, and I'm saying this as someone who's lost people during the pandemic too. Please do not fear monger.
No, but you SHOULD care about other people enough to still mask.
I am NOT fearmongering.
Covid is still dangerous, especially to the many MANY people who are immunocompromised and people who cannot get the vaccines (for whatever reason).
I know several people who THIS YEAR caught permanently disabling covid, despite all being fully vaccinated.
I am not saying you have to quarantine yourself anymore. That was NOT a thing I said. There is a world of difference between wishing that other people cared enough to MASK, a thing that is NOT HARD AT ALL, and demanding that people still observe full quarantine protocols.
Plugging your ears and closing your eyes and refusing to listen when people are still justifiably worried, and not listening to experts that haven't been pressured by the government to say 'COVID IS NOT A THREAT ANYMORE YAAAY!!!' just makes you a fool.
I know that's harsh, but it's the truth.
Hospitals are no longer required to report covid cases and covid deaths as such. This is a GIANT RED FLAG that people are happily ignoring so they can feel safe.

i get why tim isn’t in any dc animated movies
i don’t love it, but i get it. and i say this as a fan of tim drake, he’s my favourite robin and one of my favourite characters. but i get why they’ve more or less omitted him from the animated universe (save for his, like, four lines in young justice). and the short answer is that he makes things complicated.
long answer is that unless you’re making a specifically Tim-centric movie, he really is (narrative-wise) expendable. take “under the red hood” for example. that movie is about jason and bruce, plain and simple; the messy and complicated relationship they have post-jason’s death, and some bonus thematic meditations on the no-kill rule and why it’s so important to bruce.
it would honestly be a detriment to the shakespearean levels of drama that come from a story about a scorned son returned from the dead taking revenge on both the man who killed him and the man who let the murderer live
to take care of this side plot wherein jason has to deal with a new kid who took his place. it’s a good story to explore, especially with a long-form medium like comic books, but trying to pack something substantial from all the disparate pieces into a 90 minute movie is just going to make it messy and take away from the real focus and thematic drive of the story: jason and bruce.
same goes for “son of batman” with damian: tim makes things complicated. it’s hard to make the core of the story about bruce and damian when theres this other kid there, who happens to require some heady exposition to explain his presence in the first place. and the thing is that tim is pretty easily removed without damaging that narrative core, so it’s in the writers best interests to do so. (also tbh damian would be a much less sympathetic character in those movies if his introduction was beating the shit out of tim and alfred. add that to the fact he’d have to be made robin by the end of the movie, and it’d make that achievement bitter-sweet if he’d be shoving tim out of the position. it’s narratively easier, simpler, cleaner, to have him take a vacant position from a long since graduated hero than to snatch it from another kid)
and that same philosophy kind of extends to the batman animated series as well, with the strange blend of tim feat. jason’s backstory. because jason’s backstory is the more concise story to tell - one you could knock out with an elevator pitch:
“young thief with a heart of gold gets taken in by Bruce Wayne/Batman and gains a family/purpose by becoming the new Robin”.
tim on the other hand requires first: an explanation of jason and his death, an explanation of dick and how tim figured out his and bruce’s identity, and if you want to be character-accurate, explain how first tim realizes batman’s gone off the rails, how he goes to dick grayson to convince him to be robin again, and once tim’s exhausted all other options, decides he must become robin himself. and that’s without even mentioning tim’s life outside of batman and robin. his elevator pitch would be something like:
“upper middle class boy who idolizes batman and robin figures out their respective secret identities, and when the second robin dies he sees batman begin to descend into violence. he decides the solution is that batman needs a robin, and tries to convince the first robin, now nightwing, to take on his old mantle. this fails and in a last ditch attempt to save batman from himself, tim dons the robin outfit and proves himself to batman and nightwing. he gains a family (except not entirely because he has a living family but they’re not around much so its ok) and a sense of dire responsibility by becoming the new Robin and filling a dead boy’s pixie boots”
with tim, things get complicated. which isn’t to say there cant be a movie about tim drake, in fact i think it could be great, but his story wouldn’t be anyone’s first pick.
why would you choose a convoluted/ethically ambiguous character study about a teenager who is a) convinced that he, a thirteen year old, should shoulder the emotional baggage of a fully grown man, and who is b) proven right by the end by becoming robin (egad think of the children)

when you could instead have a cleanly defined dramatic tragedy about an angry son and his grief stricken father, or a clear narrative wherein a son raised without his father must now contend with the way he was raised vs the teachings of a man he greatly respects but has never known. or even a coming of age drama about growing out of the child/parent roles set up for us, and how sometimes we just have to move out and become a police officer/disco vigilante, dad.
tim makes shit complicated. its hard to do a father-son relationship story when tim already has a dad who is ambiguously neglectful but by no means an irredeemably terrible person.
and you could take that as an opportunity to explore the complicated emotions we can feel towards loved ones who mistreat us, and you could interrogate the implications of a thirteen year old managing the emotions of a grown ass man, and you could showcase the fucked up amount of victim-blaming rationalization when it comes to discussing jason, and you could really delve on into the ethical/moral grey areas of pretty much all of tim drakes story. but it would be complicated. and probably not to everyone’s tastes. and not as easily comprehended as clearly defined, emotionally satisfying father-son stories (with 100% less attempted fratricide than the source material)
